Background

I am a graduate of Iran University of Medical Sciences (IUMS) with an MD degree. Soon afterward, I started working with Dr Shahram Latifzadeh, a Hemato-oncologist at the Cancer Institute of Iran. As a research fellow, I had daily contact with advanced cancer patients and became interested in skeletal metastasis and other cancer related bone diseases. I received the International Development and Education Award (IDEA) from the American Society of Clinical Oncology in 2005 to visit the center for sarcoma and bone oncology at the Dana Farber Cancer Institute as a traveling fellow. One year later, I joined the orthopedic biomechanics laboratory as a post-doctoral research fellow and started working on “Non-invasive computed tomography-based evaluation of changes in bone structural properties in patients undergoing anti-cancer treatment” with the support of Cancer Technology Transfer fellowship from the International Union against Cancer. My mentor is Brian D Snyder M.D. Ph.D. and I am a member of the team who works on clinical validation of CT-based structural rigidity analysis in predicting fracture risk and monitoring treatments’ effect in metastatic skeletal lesions. My clinical interests are in general orthopedic surgery and orthopedic oncology and my long-term goal is to become an orthopedic oncologist in a major academic center where I can practice both as a surgeon and as a clinician scientist.
